Aqua Owl Gold in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

We are in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today. Its a good article hitting many aspects of gold parties. A good message, and we've said it before, it that you should take your gold to a jeweler before coming to our party if you are concerned about being paid top dollar for your gold. We regularly compare our rates with those of jewelers, pawn shops, etc. If you get a price from a jeweler before the party it will certainly help you decide if our price is fair. We can pay top dollar because we have almost no overhead, just the tools we bring to the party.

Gold Party as a Fundraising Event

Gold parties are quickly becoming a fun means for raising money for charitable organizations. These events can be quite simple and easy to put together. Typically we see these events hosted somewhere that can accomodate more people but it is not uncommon to see them hosted at someone's home. Simple beverages and snacks seem to be common but check out our Fundraising page for more information. On occassion we do see the gold party incorporated as part of a larger event that is being put on by the organization.

Charitable events have a higher percentage payed to the "host" which is 15% instead of our standard 10%. We also ask that those participating in the event contribute at least 10% of their gold sold to the hosting charity. In total the charity would receive the equivalent to 25% of the total value of gold sold at the gold party.

Selling Your Gold in Private

Hi All,

We were recently asked a question at a gold party that we thought we should share: “Do you only buy gold at gold parties?”
The answer is no.
If someone has gold they would like to sell but would rather sell it in private than at a gold party, give us a call. Gold parties are really a lot of fun but sometimes people have loved ones who have recently passed away and left them some jewelry or they are not comfortable bringing a significant amount of gold with them to a party. We will come to your house with our equipment and test and weight your gold. Of course you always have the option to elect not to sell your gold, but if you decide to sell, we will write you a check right there. The amount of gold you are considering selling will normally determine how far we will travel to review what you have. If you live within an hour of the Milwaukee-Brookfield area, we will usually travel to review fairly small amounts. If you are not sure, give us a call to discuss it.

Aqua Owl Gold Party Getting More Fun!

Hello Everyone,

Everyone has been having such fun with their gold parties lately we thought we might try to "fun up" the site a little bit. In the next few days we are going to be adding a page specifically for fun things. We sometimes see some very unusual things at gold parties so we thought we might add a page the has pictures of some of the funny or unusual items we buy. Could be a HOOT!

We are also considering adding some snack ideas along with some simple shopping lists to help make the preparation easier. Some people feel like they need an elaborate smorgasbord of snacks but some of the most fun parties we have been a part of have included very simple and economical snack choices. Think about it, people come to socialize and sell their gold, they don't really care if they get to taste a peppercorn-encrusted red Alaskan salmon on a hand-made German long grain cracker with Swiss cream cheese with a hint of Dutch dill (although that sounds interesting) . If you have suggestions feel free to share and we can post them on the site.

Will Travel for Gold Parties in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois

Exciting news, we are talking to someone about a Gold Party in Marinette! The party is not booked yet but it made us think about letting people know that we will travel. We love to visit different cities around the state. We just ask that you make an attempt to get as many people to the party as possible. We would like to see at least ten people but twenty would be much better. More than twenty is even better than that! Saturday parties are a must for anything outside of 2 hours from Elm grove, WI.

So wherever you are, Madison, Wausau, Janesville, Green Bay, Marinette, Hayward, LaCrosse, Beloit, Rockford or any city large or small in Wisconsin or Northern Illinois, set up a party with us, We'll be there!

And, by the way, Ed is from LaCrosse so any party in that area is very easy for us. We visit family there all the time.

Gold Buyers on the News

Over the last couple of days there was a run on news stories related to gold buying/selling in the area.

The Journal Sentinel had an article about Gold Buyers who are from the Appleton area and set up booths at Mayfair and Brookfield Square malls. It was a decent article that was pretty consistent with what we are seeing. Ironically these guys are the very first people we tested our pricing against. It was a while ago but at the time we were paying about 20% more.

Channel 12 had a story on yesterday morning that gave Gold Buyers more free publicity. It had the same basic premise as the JS story.

Fox6 carried a story last night that compared the price different places are paying for gold items. If you watch the story closely you can see what the items weighed, and assuming they did the investigation within the last couple of days, when gold was around 925 per ounce, we can see where Aqua Owl Gold stacks up. I won't even give Cash 4 Gold the benefit of discussion. Derzon and Powers paid almost as much as us (depending on the day they got the pricing) but we pay the host for hosting the party and referral fees.

My only concern and disappointment was that Fox6 went into these places under no disguise so it would be easy for these places to tell the reporter they might pay more than they actually would. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since we pay more anyhow.

The main point here is that there are many places out there paying legitimate rates and a few that aren't. Some places pay more than others so we try to do the work for you and make sure we are paying top dollar by testing our pricing against the shops. It is easy to why we can pay more than the shops, here are a number of reasons:

-We have very little overhead and expenses. No rent or utility bills, just our equipment.

-We don't have to make up for other items in the store that aren't selling because of the economy. We don't have a store.

-We don't need to make a living at this. We do it to make a little money but it's also an excuse for us to meet people as well as something for us do do together as a couple.

We take great pleasure in the fact that we can be confident we are paying top dollar. Plus you get to have a fun party with your friends and family!

Checking Out Our Gold Party Competition in SE Wisconsin

Today, as we normally do on occasion to verify we are paying top dollar, we took some time to go around to some stores in the area that buy gold. We went to 5 stores which consisted of coin shops, pawn shops, jewelry stores and gold buying stores. Of all the stores we went to, 2 of the stores were closed on Saturday and Sunday. It amazes me that retail stores can survive when they are closed on Saturdays. We were happy to learn that we still pay more than anyone we have taken our gold to. The pawn shop was, and consistently has been an abysmal excuse for a gold buyer, consistently offering almost half of what we would offer.

It's a great feeling to know we are still paying top dollar!
