Gold Buyers on the News
Over the last couple of days there was a run on news stories related to gold buying/selling in the area.
The Journal Sentinel had an article about Gold Buyers who are from the Appleton area and set up booths at Mayfair and Brookfield Square malls. It was a decent article that was pretty consistent with what we are seeing. Ironically these guys are the very first people we tested our pricing against. It was a while ago but at the time we were paying about 20% more.
Channel 12 had a story on yesterday morning that gave Gold Buyers more free publicity. It had the same basic premise as the JS story.
Fox6 carried a story last night that compared the price different places are paying for gold items. If you watch the story closely you can see what the items weighed, and assuming they did the investigation within the last couple of days, when gold was around 925 per ounce, we can see where Aqua Owl Gold stacks up. I won't even give Cash 4 Gold the benefit of discussion. Derzon and Powers paid almost as much as us (depending on the day they got the pricing) but we pay the host for hosting the party and referral fees.
My only concern and disappointment was that Fox6 went into these places under no disguise so it would be easy for these places to tell the reporter they might pay more than they actually would. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since we pay more anyhow.
The main point here is that there are many places out there paying legitimate rates and a few that aren't. Some places pay more than others so we try to do the work for you and make sure we are paying top dollar by testing our pricing against the shops. It is easy to why we can pay more than the shops, here are a number of reasons:
-We have very little overhead and expenses. No rent or utility bills, just our equipment.
-We don't have to make up for other items in the store that aren't selling because of the economy. We don't have a store.
-We don't need to make a living at this. We do it to make a little money but it's also an excuse for us to meet people as well as something for us do do together as a couple.
We take great pleasure in the fact that we can be confident we are paying top dollar. Plus you get to have a fun party with your friends and family!

Today, as we normally do on occasion to verify we are paying top dollar, we took some time to go around to some stores in the area that buy gold. We went to 5 stores which consisted of coin shops, pawn shops, jewelry stores and gold buying stores. Of all the stores we went to, 2 of the stores were closed on Saturday and Sunday. It amazes me that retail stores can survive when they are closed on Saturdays. We were happy to learn that we still pay more than anyone we have taken our gold to. The pawn shop was, and consistently has been an abysmal excuse for a gold buyer, consistently offering almost half of what we would offer.
It's a great feeling to know we are still paying top dollar!
